Safeguarding at MyrieTuition

MyrieTuition is committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive online learning environment for every student. The welfare of children and young people is always the primary consideration.

Safeguarding responsibility

MyrieTuition is currently managed and taught by Semone, a UK-qualified Science teacher and experienced Head of Science. As the sole provider, Semone is responsible for safeguarding within MyrieTuition.

Semone holds an Enhanced DBS certificate and undertakes regular safeguarding training. The certificate’s issue date and relevant clearance information can be discussed with parents and carers during enrolment.

Safe online lessons

All lessons take place through an agreed online teaching platform at scheduled times known to parents and carers.

To support a safe learning environment:

  • Students are not required to activate their cameras.

  • Students should use their first name rather than their full name onscreen.

  • Students should participate from an appropriate shared or study space wherever possible.

  • Language and behaviour must remain respectful and suitable for a learning environment.

  • Students must not independently record, photograph or distribute any part of a lesson.

  • Unscheduled private video calls or telephone conversations with students will not take place.

  • Any additional individual support must be agreed with a parent or carer in advance.

Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring that students have a suitable place from which to participate and that an adult can be contacted during the lesson if necessary.

A parent or carer must provide an emergency contact number and the address from which the student will usually attend lessons. MyrieTuition must be informed if these details change.

Recording of lessons

Live lessons are recorded for safeguarding, quality assurance and the appropriate investigation of any concern or complaint.

Parents and students are informed about recording before enrolment and when recording begins. Students are not required to activate their cameras, although their voice, display name or written contributions may be captured when they participate.

Recordings:

  • Are stored securely.

  • Are accessible only when necessary.

  • Are not published or used for promotional purposes.

  • Are not routinely shared with students or other families.

  • Are normally deleted after 30 days.

  • May be retained for longer when a particular safeguarding concern, complaint or legal obligation requires this.

Further information about the handling of recordings and personal information is provided in the MyrieTuition Privacy Policy.

Communication outside lessons

Students may communicate directly with Semone during scheduled live lessons.

Outside lessons, all individual communication must take place through the parent or carer’s registered email address or telephone number. Students should not contact Semone through personal messaging services, social media or private accounts.

Questions about learning may be submitted through a parent or carer. Responses will be sent to the registered adult contact.

Semone will not follow students, accept connection requests from students or communicate privately with them through social-media platforms.

Responding to safeguarding concerns

Any disclosure or indication that a child may be at risk of harm will be taken seriously.

If a student raises a concern, Semone will:

  • Listen calmly without conducting an investigation.

  • Avoid asking leading or unnecessary questions.

  • Not promise complete confidentiality.

  • Make an accurate written record of what was seen, heard or disclosed.

  • Share relevant information with the appropriate safeguarding authority when necessary.

Where a child appears to be at immediate risk, the emergency services will be contacted on 999. Other concerns may be referred to the child’s local authority children’s social care service, the police on 101, or another appropriate safeguarding agency.

Parents will normally be informed unless doing so could increase the risk to the child or interfere with an appropriate safeguarding response.

Concerns about the tutor

Any concern about Semone’s conduct should be taken seriously and does not need to be reported to Semone first.

Parents and carers may contact:

  • The children’s services department of the local authority in which the child lives and ask how to report an allegation concerning an adult who works with children. The Local Authority Designated Officer oversees qualifying allegations, although local referral arrangements vary.

  • The police on 101, or 999 where someone is in immediate danger.

  • The NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000.

Confidentiality and information sharing

Safeguarding information will be handled sensitively and shared only with those who need it to protect a child, comply with the law or respond properly to a concern.

Data protection requirements do not prevent relevant information from being shared when this is necessary to safeguard a child.

Policy review

This policy will be reviewed at least annually and sooner if MyrieTuition’s teaching arrangements, safeguarding guidance or legal responsibilities change.
